"Going Rogue" from X-men 97

She has to be my favorite piece of the most recent X-men set. A true force to be reckoned with. So, today I sing the praises of Prime Rogue.

There is one aspect of her, and only one that I don't worry about using that much and that's her ability to steal equipment. I settle for unequipping in lieu of a free +1 longsword. It feels like a best of both worlds sort of thing to give her blades and close combat expert while also messing up equipment. Even if it were something I would like to steal.

Then there is that much discussed and beautiful trait: Opposing characters can't choose or target Rogue except for attacks. I've seen a lot of wordy discussion on this for some variant abilities out there that can get around this, but honestly, you don't see it that much in play. At least that's my opinion. The best part of that to me is probability control, outwit, and perplex are all off the table for my opponent. Protection from any one of the three is here and there in figures and generally one at a time. All three is powerful.

Now, don't jump me for terminology. I know it isn't "protection" as game terms though it may as well be. It just can't be fiddled with as if it were called "protection". "Can't be targeted or chosen" is probably one of the most powerful terms I've seen in this game. You have to work at it to get around it or just roll up your sleeves and go toe to toe. Gross damage can still take her down, but if you get hit with what I'm suggesting next, it may be too late.

There is a one shot that works very well with Rogue. Practiced Teamwork is a great way to score a 2 hit long distance strike. Rogue carries another hitter and lands next to your target. This is just a move for her so she will get her free close attack, and she can also outwit on the spot. Flip that card and have your carried hitter swing away. Two attacks and an outwit that steals a power. Not bad at all. You could erase some tough figures doing that.

Only getting three keywords is a little sad but her abilities are not keyword dependent. I'm not afraid to break theme to get more interesting and Practiced Teamwork isn't keyword limited either. Then there's all the cute benefits you can get from a brute team right now. The right line up on that can make Rogue a horror story.

What ways do you like to play Rogue? Do you like my idea, or have one better? Let me know in the comments.
